Garden Marker Plate Engraver

There are three common ways to permanently mark your metal garden marker plates – engraving, etching, and embossing/debossing.

Engraving
Only removes a trace amount of material – less so than etching – from the surface of the marking plate to create its effect. Our battery powered engraving tool uses a small motor inside, which will in turn spin and vibrate the bit in order to scratch away at the surface.

Etching
With lasers or other methods is a process where a laser beam or chemical process physically removes only the surface of the material in a desired location creating very high contrast but usually with only a slight amount of depth.

Embossing/Debossing
Is a stamping process used to create 3-D lettering that produces raised or sunken lettering or designs, typically using metal dies pressed directly into the marking plate. An easy DIY method can be achieved by pressing firmly while writing with a ball point pen - especially popular with the copper plates.
